Gas boilers to be obsolete by 2025

As the UK continues its efforts to combat climate change, more and more people are turning to renewable energy in an attempt to lower both their carbon footprint and their bills. With new builds set to be banned from using gas heating from 2025, renewable heat sources are only going to become more common in homes around the country. One such solution is the air source heat pump, which could prove to be the ideal replacement for your noisy, inefficient gas boile

What are the advantages of air source heat pumps?

There are a number of reasons why an air source heat pump is a great alternative to old-fashioned methods of heat generation. Compared to gas boilers, air source heat pumps:

  • Produce less CO2 emissions, since they run on electricity and air rather than gas
  • Are significantly cheaper to operate
  • Possess a much higher efficiency rate (300% compared to between 70%-90% for gas boilers)
  • Have a longer average lifespan

Now is a great time to invest in an air source heat pump

Gas boilers won’t be obsolete until 2025, but there’s no sense waiting until then to make the change – in fact, there’s never been a better time to switch to renewable energy sources like air source heat pumps.

This is because there are currently two government schemes in place that mean homeowners and landlords can not only benefit from regular payments based on the amount of renewable heat produced in their home, but could also receive a voucher towards the installation cost of the heat pump in the first place.

Firstly, the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive offers quarterly cash payments over seven years for heat generated by your air source heat pump. Secondly, the Green Homes Grant scheme offers grants of up to £10,000 towards the cost of energy efficient improvements to your home – this scheme ends on 31 March 2021, before which you must have redeemed a voucher and completed the applicable improvements, so act quickly!

If an air source heat pump sounds like the right heat source for your home, Eco Partners are here to help.
